Yankee Clipper Cruise News

The YCC Board is enthusiastic about adding an Isles of Shoals cruise social event to our chorus year. The management of the Thomas Leighton, including the owner, is tremendously excited at having this chorus on board on the 23 of June. The Office Manager herself is going to accompany us on the 10 AM cruise and wants to bring her young son who likes to sing. We have developed a lot of enthusiasm about this event and we need the chorus membership to step up and commit to it. The last thing we need is for 8 or 9 guys to show up and be missing sections. This is a chance to sing for the general public, get our name before the cruise patrons and have a good time simultaneously. How can we lose? I have summarized the relevant information below.

  • Group discount of $5 is available from the $25 ticket price for groups of 25 or more. Discounted ticket price is $20. Children under 5 free. Children over 5, $15 with no discount. I have a contract in hand for the group rate provided we have 25 attendees.

  • Saturday sailing time 10 AM. Report time 0930 at the latest. Address is: 315 Market Street Portsmouth by the salt pile at Portsmouth Port Authority docks.

  • No food or beverages, alcoholic or otherwise can be brought on board. No picnic coolers, fireworks, confetti, balloons etc. to be brought on the ship. There are two snack bars aboard as well as a fully licensed lounge facility for those who sing better after a double martini (just kidding).

  • Parking available at Barker's wharf (where the ship is docked) for $3.00 per car. Entrance marked by flags and parking attendant available. Advisable to arrive early since space is limited.

  • The Board has designated the cruise as a chorus event and it is assumed that all chorus members will be there. If you cannot be there, please let Dick Willey and me know by e-mail. Like the Installation Dinner, and according to Board policy, the chorus is not extending credit to attendees. You must have a check payable to Yankee Clipper Chorus to Dick Willey prior to the event and he is going to specify a cutoff date. If you don't pay, you don't get to go and you miss a great time. We need to provide the steamship company with a count prior to the sailing date, and I am required to pay for everyone with a single chorus check. So please commit and get your check to Dick W. as soon as you can.

  • Uniform and program to be specified. Possibly our new summer shirts?

  • This is a three hour narrated cruise, with the captain explaining Portsmouth harbor and its history as well as the history of the Isles of Shoals. We can listen and learn from this narration and when the captain takes a break, the chorus gets a turn to sing a couple of songs. This will be coordinated ahead of time. We may be asked by the Sales Manager to sing while the passengers are boarding. I am staying in contact with the steamship company staff and will keep you up to date with another Cruise News.

Thanks for giving this your most earnest attention.

Dick Ferraro, Secretary
